Irish and Danish Gambling Regulators Sign Cooperation Agreement

The Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) and the Danish Gambling Authority Spillemyndigheden signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen regulatory cooperation. The agreement was finalized following a meeting between agency leaders in July.

The MOU establishes a framework for closer collaboration regarding compliance, monitoring, and enforcement actions. Both agencies oversee similar market operators and aim to improve information sharing to address risks associated with digital gambling services.

Anne Marie Caulfield, CEO of the GRAI, and Anders Dorph, Director General of Spillemyndigheden, discussed aligning regulatory approaches during their recent talks. Caulfield stated that the MOU represents a vital milestone for deepening ties with European regulatory partners.

License Rollout Timeline

The regulatory collaboration coincides with the implementation of new licensing structures in Ireland. Remote betting licenses officially commenced on July 1. The GRAI plans to introduce in-person betting licenses later this year, with lottery, B2B, and charitable gaming licenses scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
